Borna’s photograph captured a stunning interior shot bathed in streaming light through a stained-glass window at the 17th century Karim Khan Citadel in Shiraz, Iran.

The Art of Building competition run by the Chartered Institute of Building encourages the public and professional photographers to explore and discover the ‘art’ of building as well as celebrate creativity in the construction industry. This year’s 15 finalists hailed from all over the world, including Australia, Belgium, Dubai, Iran, Myanmar, Russia, and the UK.

Caroline Gumble, Chief Executive of the CIOB and a judge of the competition said: “We all experience an emotional response to a building, whether that is your own home, the place you work or the building’s that describe a moment in time or even an entire society. Our winners this year have successfully explored the beauty that exists in heritage buildings and their continued meaning to us all. We thank everyone who entered the competition and everyone who voted. Congratulations to our winners you have inspired us.”
