The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has urged the construction industry to get involved in new research to help develop a picture of the benefits and challenges of the principal designer (PD) role under Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).

It is inviting organisations and individuals who have experience of the PD role, regardless of project size, to take part in an online survey.

Survey questions will ask how the PD role is being implemented, to broaden understanding of the benefits of the role as well as the challenges of implementing it.

The research will also be seeking the views of key stakeholder organisations via a series of personal interviews or written submissions.

Research findings will be published on HSE’s website.

The 30-minute survey can be found here. The deadline for submissions is 5 March.
