Kit of parts builder recruits former UBS and Canary Wharf Group bosses

Correy Voo and Chris Hartiss

UK-based offsite construction firm Modulous has hired a former UBS bank chief technology officer, and the former Canary Wharf Group head of design, ahead of a planned expansion.

Former UBS executive Correy Voo will join Modulous as chief technology officer, while Chris Hartiss, formerly of Canary Wharf Group, will serve as design director.

Modulous, which recently raised £5m from three venture capital firms, is an ‘asset-light’ business that uses local factories to supply and combine Modulous’s accredited kit of parts to build flats.

The business, which claims to have a construction pipeline of more than £250m, said the new appointments would bolster its technology and design teams to enhance its software platform that uses digital technology to deliver homes more quickly.

In his role at UBS, Voo was responsible for introducing and integrating cloud services into the bank’s IT infrastructure, while Hartiss has more than 20 years’ design and architecture experience, having worked on the redevelopments of Chelsea Barracks and One Tower Bridge.

  1. With the increasing drive for MMC and a natural reluctance to increase overhead burden by investing in physical factories, let’s all hope there is sufficient capacity (or others that are willing to invest), for the rest of us.
